Fort Apache is in the White Mountains of AZ - not in Cochise County, AZ where the film is historically taking place. The fort is really Fort Bowie - not Fort Apache. It is filmed in Monument Valley - not in Cochise County, AZ where the Cochise battles took place. Monument Valley doesn't look anything like Cochise County, AZ. Fort Apache was beautifully filmed at Ford’s favourite location of Monument Valley on the Utah-Arizona border. However it is life at Fort Apache that has been so vividly captured; the reunions and separations of loved ones, the waiting women, the revelry of the soldiers, the singing interludes, and the formal dances including a Grand March.
